Explore the charming coastal village of Mahébourg by strolling along its turquoise lagoon and wandering through its typical streets to discover its flavours during this guided food tour.

Starting at Pointe des Régates, your tour guide will walk you deeper into the village to introduce you to the region through food.

Stopping at various local restaurants and street food vendors to taste some local food, you will discover Mauritian culture at each stop, all the while learning about the history of Mahébourg.

Itinerary

Starting at La Pointe des Régates, we will stroll along the waterfront and chat about the region’s rich history. we will stop at various local restaurants and street food stands to taste local Mauritian food, some of which are typical to Mahebourg.
Along the way we will meet Sunita and taste one of Mahebourg’s favourite street food, and sip on a refreshing tropical drink. We’ll continue to get to know each other while we discover the ruins of an old train station: a reminder of the golden days of our sugar industry.
Next stop: a cozy family restaurant that serve a special dish, unique to the village of Mahebourg!
A few bites, later and we will meet a local fisherman who will take us on his boat to explore the La Chaux River to give us a unique perspective of the river life. We will cruise upstream, and immerse ourselves in the denser vegetation along the river banks – an experience that very few have experienced!
As we begin to satisfy our appetite, we will visit the beautiful, colourful, and flavourful Mahebourg market. Later, we’ll join the lovely Mrs. Pillay and hear some stories of Mahebourg back in the days.
As the tour comes to an end, we will have had a proper taste of the authentic Mahebourg.
