Once Grand Bay (Grand Baie) was an abandoned coastal region and a perfect refuge for escaped slaves. Then became a port of commerce for French landowners. Later the landing site for the English invasion, Grand Bay has become one of the most popular and prosperous tourist destinations in Mauritius in just a few decades.
To some it may seem that Grand Bay has lost much of its authenticity and charm. However, with Taste Buddies, you will uncover and experience the real Grand Bay. We want to preserve the authenticity of Grand Bay by sharing with our buddies Grand Bay’s history, culture and a variety of delicious Mauritian food.
We have partnered with some of the local’s favourite restaurants and food spots, who have agreed to prepare special local dishes just for us! At each food stop, our buddies will get the chance to taste a variety of local dishes and local drinks, each prepared with a different Mauritian twist.

As we stroll along the beach and through the streets of Grand Bay, we’ll hear the history of this coastal town and see the contrast between the old and the new Grand Bay. We can picture the life here during the times of the early Dutch explorers, the French settlers or even the English as they landed here and took the island from the French.
With our bilingual guide, take a step back in time and learn about the evolution of Grand Bay. Listen to the anecdotes and stories, taste a range of delicious Mauritian flavours, learn about the different ways of preparing each dish, and meet the local people who live and grew up in Grand Bay.
